BNOW Founder
Pacharee "Nui" Pantoomano

Pacharee "Nui" PantoomanoI moved back to Thailand from the US in 1996. After nearly two decades of living in the States, I figured that coming back to live in Bangkok would be a piece of cake. I thought, I'm Thai, I speak Thai; so, this should make things easier. Little did I know then, that though I have the communication skills and look Thai, I would have to learn to adjust to a system that was entirely foreign to me.

At first, I relied upon my extended family living in Bangkok. As time passed, I thought I really needed to get more self-sufficient and sort things out on my own. Simple things like getting advice on where to live, how to work with a contractor, networking to find the right job or getting tips on how to succeed in a cross-cultural environment were hard to come by. Occasionally I lucked out and things worked. There have been other times when it turned into a fiasco. Fortunately, after the first year, I made friends and they gave me sound advice on how to approach things. I thought about other women who might have shared the same experience and how we can benefit by working collaboratively.

The Bangkok Network of Women, BNOW for short, was conceived in late 2003 by a group of friends who shared similar challenges and wanted to make a difference. The group's aim is to create a forum that can help professional women living and working in Bangkok. Members are encouraged to contribute, be active and positive. The monthly meetings are a way to have women meet and interact, enabling them to put faces to names and to make new friends and business connections in this transient town.

See you at the next get together!

Cheers,

Nui

When:

The group was started in January 2004 to help local and foreign women who are both new and old to Bangkok.

Why:

The concept is to provide a supportive network to women from all walks of life. We have a weekly e-newsletter which takes contribution from the members. These contributions are in the form of questions to the group, suggestions, recommendations, and announcements. Answers and feedback may be shared with the group or directly with the person who posted a specific query. The group meets twice a month. The get together is to have women meet and interact, enabling them to put faces to names and to make new friends and business connections in this transient town.
